“I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a servant of the church in Cenchrea, that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and assist her in whatever business she has need for you; for indeed she has been a helper of many and of myself also.” Romans 16:1-2
Paul had a habit of either commending or affirming people. It was his way of expressing appreciation. Here he commends a woman, Phoebe a fellow worker who served faithfully in the church and who had significant ministry. Commending her to the Roman church was an affirmation of the confidence he had in her service to the body.
Leadership Principle: Don’t assume that your people know how much you appreciate them, tell them and tell others.
Loving Father, our Lord Jesus was full of sorrow as he wept over Jerusalem for her failure to repent. Teach us the humility to look at ourselves by the light of the cross, and be moved to repent of all our wrongdoing, for you delight in restored fellowship through him who plunged the depths that we might be raised to the highest glory.
